Since you only have $225, the most that your opponent can put in the pot is $225. He will get to hold on to $75. Of course, if you win the hand, you will have $450 and the most that you can put in the middle at that point is $75.

When you play heads up, the most that can go in the middle is the amount that the shorter stack has. The excess gets returned.
