If you are a tournament player, the best set of books to get is Harrington on Holdem. Dan Harrington is one of the greatest players in WSOP history and his insight is hailed by many pros to be the best out there.
In regards to DVD’s both Phil Hellmuth and Howard Lederer have DVD’s on learning to play Holdem. I recommend Lederer’s DVD’s. They may come across a little dry, but he give a very solid approach to starting out.
Small Stakes Holdem by Ed Miller and Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones are two good books that you can pick up that are geared towards cash game play.
